What Is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating and affects far more people than you may realize. In some cases, sweating affects your whole body at once, while in others, it targets just specific areas. Most commonly, both sides of the body experience equal effects. If you find yourself constantly worrying about visible sweat stains, avoiding handshakes, or changing clothes multiple times daily, hyperhidrosis treatment may help you regain control.
Excessive sweating feels quite uncomfortable in any situation. Whether nerves, strenuous exercise, or hormones trigger it, you may find yourself in the extremely frustrating position of constantly worrying about sweating throughout the day.
Common areas that hyperhidrosis affects include:
- Underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis)
- Palms of hands (palmar hyperhidrosis)
- Soles of feet (plantar hyperhidrosis)
- Face and scalp (facial hyperhidrosis)
- Groin area
Many people with hyperhidrosis avoid social settings because they know the sweating will show obviously through their clothes and affect their handshakes. While excessive sweating doesn’t usually pose a serious threat to your health, it does negatively impact your quality of life.
