Lipomas are adipose (fatty) tumors that are usually benign and are often found in subcutaneous tissues between the muscles and the skin. They grow pretty slowly over the years on different parts of the body such as your head, neck, shoulders, and back.
They are typically not painful and present as a soft mass on the outer part of the skin. Though there are many variants of lipomas, most of the time, you won’t need to get treatment on these. It is typically more desired if you are experiencing a rapidly-growing or painful lipoma, in which case, we may recommend steroid injections or complete removal through excision.
We’ve seen patients of all ages who have a lipoma, but the most common time period that people will start to see more of these is between 40 and 60 years old.
When a surgical excision is completed, it often results in a full cure and complete removal. Prior to the surgical procedure, your doctor will outline the lipoma visually with a marker to make sure the margins are correct. A detailed plan already determined in your consultation will be followed carefully during the excision procedure.
Cysts look similar to lipomas on the outside, but they are fluid-filled instead of filled with fatty tissue.

In the removal of both cysts and lipomas, you may expect:
Our dermatologist-led team will explain any details during your consultation and treatment appointment including preparation steps, what to expect during your procedure, and how to take care of the treatment area after treatment.
“Our practice philosophy is simple — to deliver the very best care we can in the very best way we can. To us, that means we make each and every patient feel welcomed from the moment that they walk in the door until they leave the office. It means that we listen to what the patient has to say and address those concerns. It means we give advice and recommend treatments based on our extensive training with leaders in the field, our wealth of personal experience, and our commitment to excellence. For our cosmetic patients, it means working with the patient to achieve results that look natural, not overdone or exaggerated. It means that we always strive to do the right thing for the patient, as we value very highly ethics, honesty, and integrity. It means we stand behind what we do and will do everything in our power to get the best results we can for the patient. It means we carefully select the highest quality staff to represent us and help us carry out these goals. Lastly and most importantly, it means that we treat the patient the way we would want ourselves to be treated, with respect and kindness. Because at the end of the day, without all of our loyal patients, we wouldn’t have a practice.”
