As we age, our eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. This causes excess skin and fat to accumulate below and above your eyelids. The visible result of this can cause droopy upper eyelids, your eyebrows to sag, and more dramatic, puffy bags under your eyes.
Experiencing any of this will make you look visibly older, tired, or even sad at times. If severe enough, it can start to negatively affect your peripheral vision as well.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed on those who are experiencing excess skin and fat on the upper eyelid. An incision is made in the upper eyelid fold where the excess skin and fat is removed or repositioned. In some procedures, we may need to tighten or correct underlying muscle tissue with sutures. Our team will hide incisions in natural folds and creases and close the incisions with sutures.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to reduce the puffiness and bags under the eyes. We perform what is called trans-conjunctival blepharoplasty where the extra fat is removed through a small incision made through the inner surface of the eyelid. This produces no visible scar.
For all blepharoplasty procedures, you’ll likely have sutures for the first full week of recovery. Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities in 10-14 days. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia in our operating rooms.

Our team will send you home with a detailed post-operative plan of care to help you have the most ease when it comes to your recovery. Instructions of how to dress your wounds will need to be strictly followed, and cold compresses are recommended. Protecting your eyes from sunlight until the healing process is complete is also extremely important.
Post-surgical swelling will reduce over time, and you can see full results within several weeks. It may take longer than this for the incisions to fully heal. Please note that because this is an elective cosmetic procedure, we do not bill insurance.
