Rosacea is a common chronic skin condition that varies greatly in severability from person to person. Most people who experience this condition at the very least will have noticeably flushed and blushed skin. Another common symptom is that blood vessels may become broken and shown more prominently in the face.
Sometimes Rosacea can be more severe and will produce small, puss-filled red bumps on the face and is commonly mistaken for acne or other issues with the skin. It’s hard for someone experiencing Rosacea to determine what causes flare-ups or when flare-ups will occur unlike some of the other skin conditions.
For the most part, the cause of Rosacea is widely unknown, though it could be due to an overactive immune system. The condition usually starts between the age of 30 and 60.
Though there is no cure for Rosacea, there are certainly treatment methods that will help control and reduce the symptoms and appearance of this condition. Rosacea can affect anyone, but it is most common in middle-age white women.
Some with more severe symptoms of Rosacea will experience a burning sensation in the central region of the face. Hot and tender-to-touch areas can be extremely uncomfortable for people during a flare-up.
Because it’s mostly the central area of the face that’s affected, many people with Rosacea may experience swollen, irritated eyes and eyelids. This is known as Ocular Rosacea and in some patients, we see that their flare-ups start at the eyes and go outward towards the rest of the face.
Some patients may experience Rosacea on the nose first and then notice it starts to extend to the rest of the face. Additionally, experiencing many flare-ups over time, can cause the skin of the nose to thicken as a person ages.
While there are a variety of clinical symptoms and variations of how Rosacea affects people, there are four categorized types based on what you or others could be experiencing:
“Our practice philosophy is simple — to deliver the very best care we can in the very best way we can. To us, that means we make each and every patient feel welcomed from the moment that they walk in the door until they leave the office. It means that we listen to what the patient has to say and address those concerns. It means we give advice and recommend treatments based on our extensive training with leaders in the field, our wealth of personal experience, and our commitment to excellence. For our cosmetic patients, it means working with the patient to achieve results that look natural, not overdone or exaggerated. It means that we always strive to do the right thing for the patient, as we value very highly ethics, honesty, and integrity. It means we stand behind what we do and will do everything in our power to get the best results we can for the patient. It means we carefully select the highest quality staff to represent us and help us carry out these goals. Lastly and most importantly, it means that we treat the patient the way we would want ourselves to be treated, with respect and kindness. Because at the end of the day, without all of our loyal patients, we wouldn’t have a practice.”
