Radiesse is a dermal filler that is used to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds on the lower face and hands and to improve facial structure and contour. It’s the first and only calcium-based microsphere injectable treatment in the United States. It’s recommended to treat the following:
Calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, is what makes Radiesse unique as an injectable treatment. It’s the first and only CaHA injection treatment available that provides both immediate, natural-looking results and long-term improvement. Many patients experience improved results for up to a year or a year and a half.
Injections are administered under the skin with a tiny needle. The ingredients in Radiesse are nontoxic, non-allergenic, and compatible with your body’s natural tissues.
It provides immediate visible results in contouring your face and also stimulates collagen and elastin to give you a more youthful appearance. Wrinkles and folds are direct symptoms of collagen and elastin loss due to aging or environmental factors. Our skin loses its original strength and structure, and our body’s ability to produce more slows down. Eventually, the CaHA from the injections will absorb back into your body, leaving your new collagen and elastin in its place.
Radiesse is a relatively simple and quick injection procedure. It usually only takes around 15 minutes to complete this treatment. Dosage and number of treatments will vary person-to-person. There is minimal downtime associated with this treatment, and patients are able to return to normal daily activities immediately.
Some swelling and bruising to the treatment area is common to experience for a few days after. While you’ll be able to return to your normal routine immediately, you mayneed to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after treatment.
As with any cosmetic injection treatment, it’s important that you have an experienced and trusted injector that is familiar with these injectables specifically. Because it is not a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler, it is not reversible with Hylenex®.
